Video Image Fire and Smoke Detectors

Always vigilant and always watching, FM Approved video image fire and smoke detectors perform real time analysis of video images representative of smoke and fire within the viewing area covered by the video camera to alert the end user of a potential critical condition.  This detection principle typically requires a clean line-of-sight of the area being viewed by the camera and the detector may connect directly to either the initiating or signaling line circuits of a fire alarm system. 

For each video image fire and smoke detector which is certified by FM Approvals, the following parameters are evaluated:

• Detectable fuel sources
• Influence of false alarm sources within the viewing area
• Field of view
• Minimum and maximum detection range
• Volume and size of the smoke and fire signature required for detection

These detectors are intended to be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
