Coatings
If a fire happens, you want to deal with the fire where it is and not being chasing it around the facility. A fire retardant coating which is certified by FM Approvals is intended to delay ignition and reduce the surface burning rate of interior combustible finish materials. This gives the end user time to react to the situation and attack the fire. The coating may be applied by a variety of methods (in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions). The protection afforded is generally proportional to the thickness of application. FM Approved coatings have been subjected to high temperature exposure testing to ensure the ability to delay ignition of the substrate. These coatings are not intended as substitutes for automatic sprinklers.
Coatings are designed with specific criteria for each application so it is important to only use a coating in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
