Below Ground

Underground fire service mains are the vital link between the public water supply and the facility and help to distribute water around a private site. Failure of any one component may cause the complete failure of the water supply or, at a minimum, a diminished water supply. Below ground components that are FM Approved have successfully completed a rigorous test program to ensure that they will continue to successfully perform when the time comes.

FM Approved underground fire service pipe can made from many different materials:

• Cast iron
• Ductile iron
• Fiber Reinforced Composite
• Polyethylene (PE)
• Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
• Stainless steel

All pipe and fittings should be installed and anchored according to the manufacturer's instructions.
